M3 Director - Privacy Officer

About the Team:

The Legal and Compliance team at PayU plays a strategic role in enabling business growth while ensuring adherence to regulatory and legal frameworks.

About the Role:

PayU is looking for a Regional Privacy Officer, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. As the Regional Privacy Officer, you will provide privacy support to all PayU group entities, in and outside India.

This role/ position will support all PayU India group entities in: (i) establishing a group-wide privacy governance framework; (ii) implementing and maintaining data privacy practices and procedures that are compliant with DPDP Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), along with applicable sectoral or global privacy regulations; and (iii) aligning PayU’s privacy standards with global standards and best practices. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leading PayU’s privacy function and driving the development and implementation of the privacy framework, taking into account PayU’s growth plans.
  • Leading the implementation of revised data privacy practices and procedures to align with the DPDP Act.
  • Working closely with the leadership team and providing guidance on data governance matters.
  • Maintaining close relationships with business stakeholders, including, but not limited to product, engineering, security and HR, and supporting them in identification and mitigation of privacy risks.
  • Providing privacy compliance support in the region, including contracting, assisting with deployment of policies and guidelines, and performing privacy assessments for the relevant businesses regarding products and services in the Fintech space.
  • Driving privacy awareness-raising initiatives and trainings.
  • Developing and supporting processes for responding to privacy-related requests and complaints.
  • Providing crisis management advice as needed, including issue resolution, reporting on the data privacy implications of security or IT incidents and reporting to authorities.
  • Monitoring applicable privacy and data protection regulations and industry practices.
  • Maintaining data inventory/records of processing, implementing privacy-by-design and conducting DPIAs;

 

Requirements (Education, Skills & Experience):

  • LL.B. degree from a reputed Indian law university/ college. Any additional qualifications or certifications such as those in relation to privacy will be an advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a privacy, legal, compliance, or security or data management function involving elements of privacy. 
  • Past data privacy experience, including implementation of a privacy program.
  • Background in FinTech, banking, NBFCs and/or e-commerce will be an advantage,
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Independent, result oriented, self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast paced, international, dynamic, and diverse environment.
  • Strong organizational and priority setting skills and demonstrated ability to handle and complete several projects simultaneously within defined timelines. 
  • Always work with a positive and proactive approach, including driving processes in a complex environment.
  • Be a team player: able to “build bridges” and be “principled” at the same time.
